THE BLUE ANCHOR - February 2012
Helston, Cornwall
For many years one of the most popular watering holes for acoustic musicians.
Not least because of the very fine beer brewed on the premises.
And our thanks go to guitarist, Angus Baxter, for all his hard work in organising this weekly event.

THE MORRIS BOYS
Long time practitioners of real Bluegrass music,
The Morris Boys, through their various line ups,
have been a mainstay of UK Bluegrass music
for many years. This year, with Pete Orgill,
from Plymouth, playing fiddle, they're looking forward to entertaining Festival audiences
with their own brand of straight-up,
single-mic traditional Bluegrass.
These boys know how it should be played.
Go see them when you can.

Plank and Hills, Cornwall’s top guitarists at St Ives Arts Club
KEITH HILLS and Dick Plank are returning to play at St Ives Arts Club on Saturday, December 18th.
Both, as solo performers or in various line-ups, the pair have been stalwarts of the St Ives music scene
over a good few decades now. Keith, legendary for his virtuoso guitar style, has been a constant inspiration
to generations of Cornish guitarists. Dick Plank’s love of ‘Old Time’ and ‘Bluegrass’ helped him establish
strong ties with the US, bringing over several great proponents of those styles to perform in West Cornwall.
LOT OF TRAVELLING Both did a lot of travelling out of Cornwall since the last show. Keith’s been playing at
various clubs and pubs along the south coast. While Dick had the pleasure of touring the UK in September,
playing with Jack Lawrence, the renowned guitarist from Charlotte, North Carolina and the musical partner
of the legendary Doc Watson. Jack Lawrence and Dick headlined at some major Festivals, including the
Cornish Bluegrass Festival, and appeared in theatres, acoustics clubs and folk clubs. The acoustic duo’s
Arts Club concert will be offering a wide variety of folk and blues numbers. Always a great opportunity to
see and hear two of the counties very best fingerstyle guitarists in action. Tickets £6.00/£5.00 on the door
at 7.30 p.m. You can find out more about Keith, Dick and many other fine local and US performers
on the ‘acousticart’ website.
